Employer Interview Tips


Interview the person, not the skill set:

  • Will they fit within your organization personally and culturally?
  • Can they accomplish their professional goals within your organization?
  • Can they do the job?
  • Always ask for real life examples of situations they have faced and problems they have solved.

Be open and honest with the candidate:

  • You want the candidate to be open with you, be open with the candidate.
  • Ask open-ended questions.  You will learn more about the candidate's technical and communication skills.
  • Always remember the candidate is interviewing you and your company as you interview them.

Communicate

  • Tell the candidate what to expect in the hiring process.
  • Inform the candidate about training, career advancement, company news, etc.
  • Always remember: At the end of the interview, if you are interested in the candidate, sell the opportunity.
